Intro To The Buteyko Breathing Technique Workshop
The Buteyko Breathing Technique is one of the most effective tools available to normalize the breathing pattern.
It was developed in the mid 20th century by the late Konstantin Buteyko, the Ukrainian doctor and professor pictured above, to transform rough breathing patterns back to a healthy norm. In the process, uncomfortable health symptoms associated with asthma and allergies, snoring and anxiousness among other conditions, may be reduced or subside.
As a young intern, Buteyko observed in the hospital that the closer a patient was to death, the heavier their breathing. It became his lifelong mission to understand the link between illness and over-breathing, and he developed a comprehensive protocol for reversing chronic hidden hyperventilation.
As the knowledge jumped the Iron Curtain of the time from the Soviet Union to Australia and then to Europe and the United States, different schools of training emerged. The Buteyko Breathing Technique also tends to be applied differently depending on students' temperaments and conditions.

This is not a Buteyko Breathing Technique full course, but it's a good jumpstart. We will go over the theory and introduce the simple exercises.
Engaging the Buteyko Breathing Technique requires a strong commitment for several months to concentrate on breathing activities until this style of breathing becomes a default.
The 10 Healthy Breathing Habits and its relationship to the Buteyko Breathing Technique can be compared to the principles of good nutrition as they contribute to a well-designed diet.
- A timer or stopwatch. There's probably one on your cell phone.
- Comfortable clothing you can move in that's not bulky, so your partner can see the breathing action, and comfortable shoes.
- A light breakfast. Don't come stuffed!
